Tonight we are playing our first show in San Diego at The Casbah! I am super excited! It should be pretty cool. We are playing as a three piece. James on guitar, Veikko on upright bass and me on the acoustic axe! Gonna play the songs from the new album! It’s cool that we’re playing the first show at The Casbah since that was where Buck-O-Nine played some of our first shows!
I am looking forward to the drive down to MY TOWN, haha! Nice day out and the burritos in San Diego are waiting!
We started mixing the PEBS album on Tuesday of this week and finished the last two songs yesterday! I couldn’t be happier with the outcome. Ten songs done! What an amazing adventure it’s been. We started recording back in March and it has come a long way since the first day of recording and even longer since the writing process began.
I started writing my little coffee table anthems in my apartment about ten years ago. I started after the last Buck-O-Nine tour sometime around 2001. I have archived close to 50 songs over the years. Most of the songs have never been heard by anyone. It started as something I did to fill the void that was left after the band stopped touring and was very therapeutic for me.
The original plan for this recording included me, my acoustic guitar and my friend Chris Vargas on drums. I recorded some demos for Chris before we got in the studio so he had a general idea of the tunes. I set up one day of studio time with my old friends James Achor and Chris Heckmann. They have built an amazing studio in their house in Glendale. I told them I wanted to record two or three songs.
We ended up tracking four songs the first day with just drums and acoustic guitar. I came back and did the vocals the next day. At that point we thought maybe we should record a few more. We ended up doing six more at the next session. We started talking about getting a bass player to round out the sound and take the tunes to the next level. Our friend Veikko came down and after a few sessions we had some serious bass lines and the songs really shaped up into something special.
James is an amazing guitar player and offered to lay down some guitar and pedal steel to add some spice and color. We then invited some back up singers, and organ player and a percussionist. And BAM! Now we have an album!
We will be mastering on June 21 at Capitol studios and then I will hit the road! I will play live in a variety of different configurations. Some shows I will be playing solo acoustic. Just me and my trusty Tim Armstrong signature model Fender guitar. Other shows will be me and my Tim along with Veikko and James. Then I will do shows with the full band.
Stay tuned for album release info and show schedules!!!

I’ve been in the studio recording a new album with my new band, PEBS! It will be a 10 song album of tunes I have been writing for the last couple years. I’m recording at Exile on Mountain Street Studios in Glendale, CA (where I grew up) with producer James Achor & engineer Chris Heckmann. The album will be called “Sweet Surrender” and should be out in September. I’ve had a lot of great friends like Chris Vargas, Christine Sherman, Steve Soto, Veikko Mark Lepisto & Dave Parker contribute their musical talents. I will be announcing some shows coming up and looking forward to having some fun. Stay tuned
